Al Franklin started as an apprentice to the world famous metal sculpture, Jose de Rivera. However, in those days, Jose told him that if he wanted to have a family, he would never be able to afford to be an artist, so Al, already shacked up, went into sales.
Finally retired during Covid, Al began to experiment with spraying paint on to water, manipulating it in different ways, and then dipping canvases into it. Soon, though, stranger ideas began to surface. Deeply dark ideas with… lets face it… one consistency: A lot of breasts.
We don’t really know where this all comes from… or why… Obviously there’s some kind of trauma being processed, but Al maintains no psychedelics are involved. Just some scotch.
Now 77 years old… Al’s art is the gift that keeps on giving, and a new act in his life.
